Marton Varo - Sculptor

One day we visited a town called Ave Maria where I took over 350 photos. Today's series shows Marton Varo, an internationally known artist from Romania, working on a part of a sculpture that will form a large relief on the face of the church in the centre of the town.

It was difficult to capture a good image of the sculpture without the artist since he was really working on the piece of art. When he moved to the side for a second or two, I captured the first image.

I took many while he was working on the sculpture using a hammer and chisel and a sander. It is amazing that he can create this from a solid piece of marble. This particular stone is Carrara Marble from Tuscany, Italy - the same type of marble used by Michelangelo.
