Fall Flowers

In the fall I shared several images of flowers that continued to bloom in my yard well into November. These plants added to the beautiful colours that time of the year.

As you can see from the first image, insects were quite aware that the flowers were still a source of nutrients this late in the year. The deep pink gladiolus was growing in the same flower bed and continued to bloom into the late fall. Both these flowers were planted near a huge boulder that had been left by the excavators when they cleared the land for my house. The wild daisies and foxglove were growing in a sheltered area of the yard with another large boulder nearby. I am now wondering in the boulders are partially responsible for the flowers surviving so long. Is it possible the boulders warmed up during the day and slowly released heat into the soil at night?
