New Bonaventure 2

New Bonaventure 2

I stopped to photograph an outhouse in a field that was nearly overgrown with grasses and other plants. I don't often see outhouses with a window.

The sign on a fence near the main road caught my attention.  As we were making photos the owner came out and said that every winter his fence was damaged by snowploughs.  Since putting up the sign, there has been no further damage.

I photographed a woman weeding her vegetable garden that overlooked the community and harbour.  In the background you can see the wharf and boats that were the subjects in several of the photos I uploaded to my Blog  today and yesterday
.
I have updated my New Bonaventure Gallery with 44 photos taken in 2004 and 2013.  You can view them at: http://www.lanephotography.com/new%20bonaventure/new%20bonaventure.htm

New Bonaventure

New Bonaventure

The third community in the Trinity Area that we photographed was New Bonaventure.  It is a fairly small community that still has several fishing stages.  I have noticed several differences in my photos over the years but don't have my slides scanned yet.  Since getting involved in digital photography, I've been there twice and will update my online Gallery.

Today's photos show views of the town with boats and stages taken from the wharf in the community.

Trinity 8

Trinity 8

This is the last in my Trinity Series.  We walked around the whole community making photos and ended up in the parking lot from which where we started two hours before.  It was getting brighter, but the sky was still overcast as I photographed the Rising Tide Theatre buildings before heading to the car.

In case you haven't checked the Trinity Gallery I have on line, here is the link to 27 images taken on a much brighter day: http://www.lanephotography.com/trinity/trinity.htm

Trinity 7

Trinity 7

Today I chose three images representative of the 13 uploaded to my Blog this morning.  The photogenic sheds with handcart were behind the Trinity Museum and you can see a few more views on my Blog.

I stopped to photograph the gentleman weeding his garden near Hiscock House, a designated historic property maintained by the provincial government.

I included two photos of St. Paul's Anglican Church.  The first was taken last week and the second, with the deep blue sky, was taken in 1982.  Other than a new roof, the building hasn't changed much.  However you can see that the graveyard in the older photo wasn't maintained and is overgrown with weeds.  These days it is well cared for and people wander among the weathered headstones trying to read the names and dates on each.  There is a house in the newer photo that can't be seen in the older one.  It may have been built since 1982 or it may not be visible because the two images were taken at slightly different angles.

Garden

Garden

Yesterday I made a few photographs of my vegetable garden and thought I'd share a few with you today.

In case you don't remember, when I built my house in 2007, they had to fill an area around 60 feet square for my septic field.  For what seemed like weeks, they dumped truckloads of fill until the whole area had 6 feet of rock.  There they built a septic field and covered in the distribution lines. with crushed rock and then covered the whole area with fill that was mostly rock.

Since then I have been adding soil and compost and now have 3 large strawberry gardens, and 10 vegetable plots.  This year I planted potatoes, carrots, lettuce, parsley, basil and cucumber.  As you can see, the potatoes and carrots are doing very well.  Only 1 cucumber sprouted so I planted a few more seeds and I think they have germinated.  Not much lettuce is growing and only a couple of parsley plants.  I think I saw 3 or 4 tiny basil plants yesterday, but they may be weeds.  There are lots of snowshoe hare around here this year and that may be the reason my lettuce has been disappearing.

You will  notice the yellow flowers (golden marguerites) growing along the edge of the garden and a few in the spaces between the raised beds.  These are all growing wild from 1 plant my wife purchased a few years ago.  You will also notice that there are potatoes growing among the carrots.  They are from tiny potatoes that I must have left in the ground last fall.

Tulips Tulips are a sign of spring, but my tulip gardens are under a foot or two of snow. It will be a while before we see the beauty of the...
