Ring-Necked Ducks

Ring-Necked Ducks

When making photographs of birds, you need a lot of patience.  When you spot and begin to approach them, they move away.  Some will take flight and you may never see them unless you wait around and be still for quite a while.  These ring-necked ducks moved to the other side of the small pond, but after I stayed completely still for a few minutes, they relaxed and went about their business.  They were preening their feathers and occasionally one of them would flap its wings several times before going back to the cleaning process.

Ring-necked ducks breed in northern North America including parts of Labrador, southern Newfoundland and the Avalon Peninsula.

Feel free to share with family and friends.
