Crested Caracara 2

Crested Caracara 2

When you view todays photos check the position of the caracara’s feet.  It was being blown off the top of the tree and lost its footing a couple of times.  Eventually it flew to another and I managed to get a couple of photos before it flew away.

I have photographed the crested caracara on a few occasions in Bonita Springs, Florida even though they are fairly rare in that state.  On this particular day I spotted a pair of them in a tree close to the road. They were busy preening their feathers and didn’t notice me. At least if they did, they weren’t concerned that I was there.

It was fairly windy and the one on the very top of the tree was having a little difficulty keeping its balance and had to keep adjusting by opening its wings.  I took advantage and made several photos before it flew into an adjacent tree.
