Crested Caracara

Crested Caracara

I have photographed the crested caracara on a few occasions in Bonita Springs, Florida even though they are fairly rare in that state.  On this particular day I spotted a pair of them in a tree close to the road. They were busy preening their feathers and didn’t notice me. At least if they did, they weren’t concerned that I was there.

It was fairly windy and the one on the very top of the tree was having a little difficulty keeping its balance and had to keep adjusting by opening its wings.  I took advantage and made several photos before it flew into an adjacent tree.

If you would like more info about this beautiful bird, feel free to visit the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's All About Birds site at: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Crested_Caracara/id
